What began as a single sighting has evolved into a comprehensive scientific endeavor to map, monitor, and protect a vital local population.
In 2018, a local resident spotted a koala in the Hills and Hornsby region. This single observation sparked a critical question: were there more koalas in our area? Was this an isolated individual, or evidence of a hidden, breeding population distributed across our region?
The Hills and Hornsby Koala Project (HHRKP) was born from this moment of curiosity and concern.
